Beckoned to walk on water!

Peter Walks On Water FINAL

28 Then Peter spoke up. “Lord, if it is really you, order me to come out on the water to you.”  29 “Come!” answered Jesus. – Matthew 14 28-29

Walking through the challenges of life is tough indeed, but the Lord is good enough to help you through it. The Lord has made himself available to us through the sharing of the bread and fish. The adversities that you meet in your everyday life put fear in your heart and not courage. This fear makes you doubt your own conscience and faith every day.

There are questions about the possibility of Jesus and Peter walking on water and the truth to it all. But the Lord works in mysterious ways and delivers his messages in diverse ways. We need to understand his word in time moment and express our understanding as the time comes. The following are some insights I read from two articles:

Now, according to researchers at Florida State University, it’s possible that a person stepping off the shore of the Sea of Galilee 2000 years ago might well have stepped onto a layer of ice thick enough to bear a man’s weight. The researchers stop short, however, of designating theirs as the true explanation for the presumed miracle of Christ’s walk on water.

So how can we explain this story? Is there a natural explanation? For example, Albert Schweitzer and others have argued that the storm inhibited the vision of the disciples and they were actually closer to the shore. But then, how did the storm suddenly calm once Jesus boarded the boat? Perhaps Jesus was actually walking on large rocks, just below the water. Or, perhaps, there is a supernatural element to the history of Jesus, and this is just a retelling of a strange, but amazing story of the miraculous ministry of Jesus.

The miracle of Jesus walking on the water is recorded in three of the Gospels (Matthew 14:22–36; John 6:16–21; Mark 6:45–56), right after his miraculous feeding of the 5,000 with only five loaves of bread and two fish (Matthew 14:17).

With this post, I am starting a series of posts on Matthew 14 22-32, where Jesus commanded Peter to come to him on the water.

In this series titled “Beckoned to walk on water!” I will be sharing 6 blog posts over the next couple weeks. These are the topics to be covered in this series:

  • Before the storm
  • Tossed about by the waves
  • Courage!
  • Beckoned to walk on water!
  • Fear and Doubt
  • Exercising the faith trip

It took the miracle of Jesus walking on the water to convince His disciples that He was REALLY the Son of God (Matthew 14:32–33). Jesus got into the boat with Peter and the wind died down.

If you have ever wondered any of the following?

  • How to walk on water just as Jesus did?
  • What level of faith do you require to do so?
  • What are the principles and applications behind this miracle?
  • Why, the statement made by Peter in verse 28 and the answer given to Peter by Jesus in verse 29?

If you do, then you do not want to miss a post. I will try to put one up each Monday for the next couple weeks.

May the good LORD bless you with his wisdom as we approach these topics and open your heart to his word?
